Chapter History

Scarborough Chapter History

The Scarborough Chapter was formed in 1985. At the time it was observed that the Black population in the Scarborough area had increased considerably since the late 1970s. The rapid growth inspired a group of Black women to establish a chapter for the purpose of addressing the challenges that were becoming evident to the community. These Congress women had a strong desire to offer support. The Chapter assisted the community throughout the years in in various ways: workshops on health, finance, housing, annual brunch and scholarship awards, bus trips, community outreach. The focus of the chapter is to educate and empower Black Women and their families.
